Strategy Games Are My Fav

I love strategy games!  I have loved them for many years.  But no one around me ever did so I played them alone.

Started off with the classic, Avalon Hill's Squad Leader board game.  Picked that up when I was 13 in Toronto in the Eaton Centre in a game store and never looked back.  Picked up every expansion for that game and played them endlessly solo.  I then got into playing miniature wargames, particularly Napoleonic and US Civil War using ESCI miniatures that I painted, though I also did WW2 skirmish wargaming (commando raids were particularly fun)...once again solo and with ESCI miniatures.  Got away from figures though so never got into the whole Warhammer and 40K scenes...still painted miniatures but for fun not gaming, outside of RPG's of course.

In the computer realm I've played all sorts from the original Civilization (and every version of it since...except 7), wargames like Panzer General and Fantasy General, Master of Orion/Master of Magic and of course the original XCOM UFO Defense and it's successor Terror from The Deep.  That game confirmed my love for tactical strategy in particular.  I've played the modern versions XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Enemy Within and XCOM2:War of The Chosen.  I've played a bunch of others too like JRPG based ones like Tactics Ogre, and my favorite of the type Valkyria Chronicles (also VC4) or other favorites like Stelllaris, and Battletech.

Now here I am with the Five X games of Five Parsecs From Home and Five Leagues From The Borderlands and loving every minute of it.  I shall have to build a physical figure collection again for these games but until then, I am enjoying them using a VTT (Virtual Tabletop).

Looking forward to trying others too as there's so many out there both in the computer realm and in the tabletop realm.  Here's to strategy games!
