Tales of the Wanderlust Company - Loss

After hearing of the Wanderlust Company's victory over the ogre, representatives from the town guard (a sergeant and a guard) came to find the company at the Crimson Tree, the inn they were staying at.  The sergeant sat down and explained that the guard was having issues keeping the peace and patrolling and would like the company to help to patrol.  The company agreed with little discussion, needing the bit of gold they would get for this. And so, the following day, after picking up the Glasha's repaired armour (it had damage after the ogre battle) the company headed out on patrol.  For most of the patrol, it was uneventful.  They met some travellers and farmers but no one else.  But as they were nearing the end of the patrol area on the road, the company saw a group of what looked to be soldiers on the road ahead.  They approached, calling out to them.  But the group suddenly pulled their weapons and without a word prepared for battle.  The...

Tales of the Wanderlust Company - A New Member!

After that last fight, the captive that was freed, Ren Thatcher went home to his family who were overjoyed to see him alive.  But the eager young man was wanting to thank the people that saved him.  He told his parents (who were against it, but saw they couldn't stop him) he was joining the people that saved him and he was going to help them out. So in game terms, Ren has joined the company as a follower.  Which is good as the dice performed well with him and the crossbow in that ogre fight so I'm going to largely have him dedicated as a crossbowman in the company. So welcome to Ren as the newest member of the Wanderlust Company.  Here's hoping he's not forced to leave because I am too poor 😉

Tales of the Wanderlust Company - The Members

Realized I didn't introduce the Wanderlust Company at all so here's some brief info about them... The Main Members Hector Clay - leader of the company, a young man, the youngest son of a merchant wanting to explore the world who used his limited experience in the town guard of his home to start a mercenary company. Glasha - A female Orc warrior who also had a desire to see the world and to test out her skills against tough opponents.  She joined up with the inexperienced Hector and became the company's first hired member. Esta Farhorn - an Elf who was restless in the forests of her homeland and desired to travel.  Wanting to understand humans and other races better, she joined the company to provide an environment to learn and a group to travel with Tobias Softstep - A halfling with religious leanings who likes to pray and thank the Sun Sovereign.  He firmly believes in keeping his word and as per his faith, swears oaths to the Sun Sovereign when he wants to be held...

Tales of The Wanderlust Company - Their First Battle

The Wanderlust Company had recently arrived on the island of Inis Taim in the town of Dawnpoint.  The town itself was a grimy port town, filled with workers on the docks and warehouses.  It lent a rough air to the town, lots of drunks at all times of the day, and many colourful characters throughout.  Fights broke out seemingly on a whim. The company had, on arrival, got some accomodations and proceeded to talk with the locals at the inn, and in the surrounding streets.  This led to hearing a rumour about a merchant looking for some mercenaries for some work.  The work as it turned out was monster hunting, specifically an ogre.  This ogre had been terrorizing the local farmers and the merchant, who's goods relied on the farmers, wanted it gone. After talking amongst themselves The Wanderlust Company contracted to kill this ogre, their first job ever as a mercenary warband. And so, after stocking up on things they needed, the company headed out the following...

Five Parsecs From Home

In all my excitement of playing my first trial campaigns of Five Leagues From The Borderlands, I picked up it's sci-fi brethern Five Parsecs From Home recently as well. Five Parsecs is, like Five Leagues, a solo adventure skirmish wargame system but is sci-fi based instead of being fantasy based. I have read the rulebook but have yet to try a game of this one yet.  I have a plan you see...I have the sourcebooks (many of them actually) for the older Traveller: The New Era RPG from the 90's.  I bought these back in college and have played a few campaigns of it but I love the setting.  And I feel the system for Five Parsecs will fit into that setting beautifully. So here's the plan.  I am developing a setting before playing.  I've learned my lessons from my couple of throwaway campaigns in Five Leagues and want to make a proper setting in the Traveller: TNE universe.  We shall see how this goes but I'm excited to flesh it out.  I am also going to fl...

Playing Five Leagues From The Borderlands

I recently got Five Leagues From The Borderlands, a solo adventure miniatures game from Modiphius.  It's basically like a skirmish wargame with RPG-lite components, but allows you to weave a story around your merry (or not so merry) band of mercenaries as they adventure and work their way through the world you create on the fly. The game is miniatures-agnostic, meaning you can throw whatever miniatures you want at it.  The rules don't care.  You can also play with no miniatures and use paper standees, boardgame pieces and paper cutouts, or Virtual Tabletops (VTT) such as Foundry, Roll20 or 3D ones like The RPG Engine.  The rules don't care so long as you can do things like set up something for your warband, the enemies, something to represent obstacles or cover and some way to measure distances. Right now I'm using a world with a bit of flavour called Avamore that is basically the pseudo-setting of the book with some extra stuff added.  I am using a VTT Th...

Hello!!!

First post on a blog ever!   I enjoy gaming, whether that be boardgames, wargames, video games...doesn't matter. As gaming is a large part of my life, I figured I could blurt out things I enjoy about games I'm playing on the Internet. Will anyone read anything I say?  No idea but really sometimes you just have to put something out there and so here is whatever random thing I decide to put into words about the games I've been playing.
